Day 1, September 9, Wednesday: Flight to Lisbon.
Day 2, September 10, Thursday: LISBON – FÁTIMA We will discover Lisbon during a panoramic tour, from São Jorge Castle to the central district, Baixa. Along the banks of the Tagus River, we will arrive in Belém, with its Jerónimos Monastery, the pantheon of kings and Vasco da Gama, and the Belém Tower, both masterpieces of Manueline art from the early 16th century. Before departing, we will cross the 25th of April Bridge to see the Christ the King statue, from where there are magnificent views over the city. Overnight in Fátima. Day 3, September 11, Friday: FÁTIMA, VALINHOS & ALJUSTREL. The great Portuguese sanctuary, Fátima, continues to attract millions of pilgrims each year, who gather in the large esplanade in front of the neo-Baroque Basilica with its colonnade and the Chapel of the Apparitions. A walk will take us to Aljustrel , where the houses of the Little Shepherds and Valinhos are located , where the Virgin appeared after the children’s return from prison. Overnight in Fátima. Day 4, September 12, Saturday: FÁTIMA – COIMBRA – SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA. Coimbra is home to Portugal’s oldest university, and its vibrant student atmosphere still dominates the city. We will visit the purest Romanesque cathedral in Portugal. We will stroll through the narrow streets to the Carmelite Convent, where Sister Lucia, one of the shepherd girls of Fátima, lived and died. There is an option to walk along the Portuguese Way of St. James before arriving in Santiago de Compostela. Overnight in Santiago. MASS IN COIMBRA (OLD CATHEDRAL)
Day 5, September 13, Sunday: SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA. A stroll through the narrow streets of the old town leads us to the Cathedral of Santiago, the destination for almost all Christian pilgrims since its construction, where we can follow tradition and venerate the figure of Saint James the Apostle. We will discover the monumental Plaza del Obradoiro, surrounded by magnificent granite works of art, as well as the charming medieval historic center. Overnight in Santiago. MASS AT THE PILGRIM’S OFFICE OR A CHAPEL NEAR THE CATHEDRAL. PRIVATE MASSES ARE NOT HELD IN THE CATHEDRAL.
Day 6, September 14, Monday: SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA – LEÓN – BURGOS. León, one of the capitals of medieval Spain, offers us masterpieces of Romanesque painting, sculpture, and architecture in the Church of San Isidoro, and in its Gothic Cathedral, one of the most important collections of stained glass windows with religious motifs. Before continuing our route, we will admire the beautiful façade of the former pilgrims’ hospital of San Marcos, now a luxurious Parador hotel. There is an opportunity to walk along the Camino de Santiago. Overnight in Burgos. MASS AT LEÓN CATHEDRAL
Day 7, September 15, Tuesday: BURGOS – LOURDES. Burgos welcomes us with a tale of the origins of Castile at the Renaissance-era Puerta de Santa María (Santa María Gate), with special emphasis on the figure of El Cid Campeador. We will visit the Cathedral, a landmark of Gothic architecture and a World Heritage Site. A stroll through the city will take us to the Casa del Cordón, the Plaza Mayor, the Paseo del Espolón, and the Consulate. In the afternoon, we will continue our journey to France. Overnight in Lourdes. There is an opportunity to attend Mass and participate in the religious activities and torchlight procession. MASS AT BURGOS CATHEDRAL
Day 8, September 16, Wednesday: LOURDES. In this beautiful Pyrenean valley, the Sanctuary rises around the Grotto where Our Lady appeared to Bernadette in 1858. We will have the opportunity to see the neo-Gothic Basilica, the Church of the Rosary, the underground Basilica, the Stations of the Cross, and the Saint’s House. Overnight in Lourdes. MASS AT THE SANCTUARY OF LOURDES (WE WILL TRY TO GET TO THE GROTTO), IF NOT, THE CHAPEL
Day 9, September 17, Thursday: LOURDES – ANDORRA – BARCELONA. In the morning, we will cross the Pyrenees and stop in Andorra, a small principality that has become an interesting commercial hub. In the heart of Catalonia, we arrive at Montserrat with its Benedictine Monastery and important historicist church that houses La Moreneta , the Virgin of Montserrat. The rocky natural surroundings invite us to enjoy beautiful walks. Overnight in Montserrat. Option to celebrate or attend Mass and renew wedding vows. MASS AT MONTSERRAT ABBEY
Day 10, September 18, Friday: BARCELONA. After a panoramic tour of Barcelona, taking us along the grand avenues lined with modernist buildings, we will arrive at the Sagrada Familia, Gaudí’s masterpiece. There is an option to arrange a tapas lunch. MASS AT THE SACRED HEART OF BARCELONA. In the afternoon, we will visit the old town, which we will explore on foot: the Gothic Quarter, the Cathedral, and Las Ramblas, a traditional promenade. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 11, September 19, Saturday: MONTSERRAT – BARCELONA Transfer to Barcelona airport for our return flight.
